Established in 1955 by George Ernest Smith in Pickering North Yorkshire as G. E. Smith hauling pit props out of Dalby Forest to the coal mines in the north of England.

In 1973 the Company had grown to 8 trucks and became a Limited Company. By 1994 the Company had out grown its Pickering depot and moved to Malton 8 miles up the road. Ernest Smith having retired in 1998 withdrew from the Company and let his son Paul Smith take over.

The current fleet now stands at 16 tractor units and 39 semi trailers hauling mainly ambient goods on box vans and curtainsiders.
